Cynthia Cole is a former professional model for Montgomery Ward through Wendy Ward Agency in Torrance California in 1973 & 1974. She has worked in the Travel Industry at LAX for over a decade.
Cynthia states, "When I paint it's to express and reflect on many things in my life. She has no formal training in art. She states, "I'm an outsider artist." She started to read about outsider art when someone mentioned to her that she was an outsider artist and what she found amazed her. She has found that she is a classic outsider artist according to the definition that was given. 14 years ago she was diagnosed by her psychologist with clinical depression-manic. The highs and lows of this disorder at times has been an emotional roller coaster for her. She states, "because I have been blessed with this disorder it has given me the chance to realize my calling and express it through art. One day I was feeling okay, but needed to get my fix. So I went out shopping to a local craft store and bought some paint and brushes. I went home and opened the paint and did not know what to paint. I dipped the brush in the paint, placed it on the paper, then a few minutes later I saw it, "My first masterpiece". Something came over me and said, "don't stop" and I have not stop as of yet."
Cynthia states "I believe my art and my history with clinical depression may open some doors of hope for others, that is my dream that they too will be inspired to live on with happiness and peace and enjoy life in every wonderful way. I want them to understand that being diagnosed with clinical manic depression does not mean life is over. It means it just begun for you. Welcome my manic friends."
